In the past, there have been some awesome media events to help capture the American public's attention. "The Boys in the Band" and "Philadelphia" immediately come to mind. I don't think we've had a real rousing attention getter in a while. Do we need one? Or is HIV-Aids just too mainstream now?

I definitely think that it is past the time for something new to be featured in the Media. The first real show they came out with was the Ryan White story and there was a big uproar after that and people working double time to make things happen such as getting the word out.

That is why there is so much out about cancer to keep it in the spot light and it works wonders.

I'd forgotten about that movie. It was excellent. I really think Americans respond when they get a good media reminder that serves as motivation. I'm not sure what that says about our nation, but it's pretty much our history.

The movie 'Philadelphia' did a good job giving a picture of how the stigma on AIDS and homosexuality affect one person's life.

If at all, perhaps a new movie on AIDS leaving out the gay part just to show the fact that anyone is at risk.

definitely... the majority of new infections are in heterosexuals - according to recent studies, that can be narrowed down more to hispanic and african american heterosexuals

I think we need constant and regular reminders to keep this topic at the front of our minds. When I was a teen in the UK there was an aids awareness advertising campaign, now there seems to be nothing out there to make the youngsters of taday more aids / HIV aware.

Philadelphia was great. It showed the whole progress beautifully. One day life is here, the next is over there. It's not that far of a distance.
