HIV is being spread because doctors overlook symptoms which could reveal the infection, a charity claims.
Do you think there's any relevance to this claim or is this unfair to doctors. After all there are various HIV symptoms that are similar to common diseases. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be. ~Grandma Moses |

| If you have been infected by this disease then your days are numbered. Doctors can’t do a thing about it. You can’t blame the doctors for it. Medical practice has its limits. |

| HIV/AIDS positive individuals may be asymptomatic initially. In the case that the doctors have overlooked or not, it is still unfair for them to connote such issue of symptom overlooking. |

| I think it is a case that the early symptoms can be so difficult to detect. I think you can hardly blame the doctor for missing it. |

I'm amazed that medical science can diagnose anything these days because there is simply so much to diagnose. Maybe it should be a standard test, or maybe we as individuals need to request the test when we go in. Perhaps it's just a combination of the two. I certainly have no reason to disbelief the article. _________________ ==Go to your happy place! |

Wow! I can't believe you said that, and on this forum, too. The article isn't about blame. I'm just amazed at your comments and its lack of hope or sympathy. _________________ ==Go to your happy place! |

That's simply not the case. Look at http://www.pedaids.org/AboutUs.aspx (The Elizabeth Glaser pediatric AIDS foundation; while she passed, her son who is HIV positive is thriving now, 20 years after the organization's inception.
Yes, medical practices have their limits, however doctors can do a great deal to keep patients with HIV healthy for years |

now to respond to some of the other points, missing symptoms, unfortunately, is something that happens in a wide variety of situations with a broad number of diseases. cancers are often missed early, lupus is often misdiagnosed, and, for that matter, the symptoms of eating disorders are often missed or ignored (especially if the patient doesn't "look" sick)
yes, there are many different diseases to keep track of for physicians, however, there are many diseases that are caught - and there are many doctors who are observant |

I think there is a high likelihood that this plays a big role. Some POV on it are These days there are a lot of Dr.'s that quite frankly are not happy with their jobs and negligently ignore complaints and do not do full work ups on their patients. Just dismissing their complaints as rubbish. - Then you have the POV of a decent Dr. some symptoms are so easily explained by other common conditions that they can be easy to not test or detect. - Lastly, there is a good percent of cases that happen in the poorest areas that are full of drugs - prostitution and poverty. Most Dr.'s in these areas are use to patients coming in try to get scripts for pain killers and such - not getting paid - they may work at free clinics as well and are use to dealing with more minor afflictions and so it is I imagine frustrating and easy to want to not test and just blow it off as someone else's issues.
Several years the Dr.s blew off my moms complaints of stomach pain and bloating etc etc because she was a drug addict I assume they thought she was after pain killers and come to find out she had Liver cancer as a side effect of her HIV positive status. They finally tested a few months before it took her life. |

I'm sorry for your loss, first.
But I'll throw in there that there's a reason why I don't trust doctors and why I'm actually planning to fly to another state to see a physician who I do trust |
