If I knew I was HIV + - I would be on birth control- so I wouldn't ever have to make this choice.
If I found out I was HIV+ when I was pregnant- then I would carry to full term- and take care of the baby. I would not breastfeed though. |

Since many women dont' find out until they are pregnant, it would be a hard decision to make. If it were me, I think I would carry the baby to term taking all the special precautions that they know of to try to insure that my baby didnt' have it.
They really should be teaching the basics about this in schools. Perhaps it would have some affect on girls being so quick to get pregnant these days. |

| Being a Man, I don't foresee ever having to make this decision myself, but I think a woman should carry the baby to term. The chances are pretty good that the baby can be healthy if the right precautions are taken. |

| I know in schools it is ever only used as a scare tactic to prevent kids from having sex but never to get them the complete information on it. |

You make a good point. Kids tend to dismiss precautions on the risks of HIV and of getting pregnant like it's just a ploy to stop them from having sex at an early age. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be. ~Grandma Moses |

| That is true and the schools use all STD's as scare tactics a lot of the time. If facts were presented more for information and not just to scare them, maybe kids would be more willing to consider it instead of blowing it off. There is more than enough information out there now for them to teach on where HIV is concerned. |

They probably need more comic book characters to be infected before they listen - no, I'm 25 years off - they need video games to reach them.
Sesame Street tried and failed to reach toddlers. A little too soon and too shocking for society I think...

| YEs, I believe Sesame Street is a little too soon. They do need to find a way to reach kids right about the time they are entering their teen age years. Or just before even. Now, many kids are having sex before they reach their teens. They arent' mature enough to understand the concequences, or to really think about how it will affect their future, and their parents and others see them as still too young for this kind of talk yet. |

I don't think there is enough education to mothers who have HIV or AIDS. To be honest i think a lot of hospitals and also clinics, not to mention school are all lacking in this department. It is 2008 and many people are still clueless.
I wouldn't really know what to do if I was pregnant and could pass the virus on to my child,I may not even get pregnant to begin with for fear of making a mistake and giving it to my child. |

schools had for a while, and then HIV/AIDS education started to fade because a lot of parents didn't want their kids hearing about sex at school. with "abstinence only" being all that's taught, it's as though there's an underlying assumption that people can stop talking about it. |
