According to this study [url]1 out of every two HIV infected individuals is African American [/url]not 1 out of every 2 African Americans have AIDS.

Considering 12.5% of Americans are African American, that's a pretty significnt number. It coincides with another article tongyun posted earlier... a gene that protects blacks from certain types of malaria may make them more susceptible to HIV infection. The fact is that there are huge stigmas surrounding venereal diseases in the Black community, mainly stemming from an unhealthy dependence on religious teachings instead of good, sound, humane and scientific knowledge. As a Black woman who is not Christian, I see this combination working against the Black community, on a daily basis, and associated with many life issues. Drugs are the least of the problems leading to the spread of AIDS in the Black community.
