Do you think kids are more aware or have become flippant about HIV again?

They have become more flippant and engage in dangerous activities. 1 in 5 teenage girls has an STD.

Russian Roulette for bar-hoppers for the next 2 decades at least.

Permissive parents and society don't want anyone to be uncomfortable. Everyone has to be equal and everyone has to win and nobody should be left out. So, here we are. 20% of our children from Middle School up are infected with something. And it was a choice.

I think teenagers are more aware about HIV and AIDS nowadays. I think the issue is whether they really care to take the necessary precautions. As we all know teenagers enjoy engaging in risky behaviours

With the coming out of new technologies I know that children are very aware of HIV/AIDS syndrome. With just a click in the computer, there are lots of things that they have to discover and study what would cause the disease.

I remember when there were public service announcements about AIDS on television but now I don't see them very often, if at all. My personal belief is that sex education starts at home and I have two older boys with whom I've discussed the consequences of sexual activity and the potential for AIDS. At least when I was younger, there were STDs that could be cured with antibiotics.

aware of it? yeah, i'd think so. the problem is not many are concerned and abstinence only education isn't going to help that

Amen! I agree these kids are aware and they absolutely know all about it but, they also know smoking causes Cancer and they're still smoking it! We need other preventative ways since its obvious that promoting abstinance isn't working.

Teenagers seem to have the belief that even though it's out there, that they perswonally wont' get it. That goes with anything. It seems that at that age we think we are invinsible and that nothing can really touch us. They have to see it first hand. They have to talk to someone that has been there before it even starts to sink in for most of them. And even that isn't enough for some. Also, a lot of teens are not taught responsibility at all anymore. And I think that would help some as well.

I believe kids and society as a whole is much more educated on HIV and AIDS. They teach it in school, you see commercials, talk shows, lit, and just tons of information on the topic. How could kids not be more aware?

it's not that they aren't aware that it's out there; it's that they are not aware of the risk to them or that it is even something that could happen to them - they (unfortunately) tend to get caught up in the idea that it's something that happens to other people
