Pharmaceutical companies have been making a big deal about medications that prevent outbreaks. The have even started saying that Herpes can be passed on even if there is no active outbreak.
Well, one of the signs doctors look for when evaluating someone for HIV infection, is if they are having repeated outbreaks of sexually transmitted Herpes. If this medication stops those outbreaks, couldn't someone pass on HIV without ever knowing it?
Couldn't the medication make it more difficult to decide if an HIV test should be performed?
I think that is a very good point. If that is the most prominent symptom that the infected person is experiencing then I too agree that it would be very easy to not look into it further if suppressive meds were working to control the herpes outbreak. Therefore making it much more likely that they will pass it on unknowingly.

It is important to remember that Herpes Simplex II, which is associated with genital herpes, can appear anywhere on the body, just as Herpes Simplex I, usually associated with cold sores around the mouth, can appear anywhere on the body.
In the future, every doctor might be required to test patients with cold sores anywhere on their bodies, for herpes and HIV.

I didn't know it. I had no idea it could appear anywhere on the body. But it does explain some things to me. I wonder why these kinds of things aren't told to patients? It is true that there needs to be more information given out on things like this.
Certain medication prevents HIV cells from multiplying in your body.
