Saw headlines in yesterday's Miami Herald talking about ways in which "free HIV clinics" were defrauding medicare by claiming to distribute drugs. There's something about this that really got to me - especially as the article talked about those on Medicare sneaking into the clinics so that people wouldn't see them; they were, in effect, paid for their social security numbers

That is absolutely ridiculous. I hate to hear about crap like that it really pisses me off. Pardon my language.

See this is what gets to me,how can people use situations like this to gain for such selfish things! Are there any charges being brought? How can people just get away with this stuff?

Well, actually if they got the social security numbers for people who were HIV positive then they could do a lot of things with that such as refusing medicare coverage for those with those SS# claim they provided meds to people under those #'s etc. The sad thing is we just will never know exactly how underhanded they were being most likely.

This is horrible. The people that did this should have to do prison time and not just because they defrauded the government. Look at all the hell they have put the patients through. HIV patients have enough problems the way it is without crap like this happening to them.

in this particular case, they weren't defrauding patients; they were just defrauding the government. they were "recruiting" folks who were negative, taking their info and billing for treatment that wasn't provided
