I don't have a personal story but I do remember a few famous stars that lived with it and were brave enough to talk about it. The first one that comes to mind is Pedro Zamora, he was a cast member in the mtv show The Real World. I remember how he came out about his disease and even spoke to president Clinton.

Magic Johnson was a very famous basketball player that came forward when HIV was just starting to be talked about in the news.

I watched the story on Ryan White and that is how I first learned about HIV and AIDS. It was a very touching and accurate account of what a lot of people are now all to familiar with.

It was a big shocker to the world at large when hunky movie star Rock Hudson died of AIDS. No one ever guessed he was gay or that he was living a very risky life with partners. And also back when, not very much was known about how it spread.

My mom was telling me about Hecto Lavoe a Puerto Rican salsa singer who died of complications of AIDS. Shortly after trying to commit suicide.

Magic Johnson is still alive correct? With enough money, it seems like the effects of AIDS can be staved off, but never cured completely. It would be nice if the average infected person could get the treatments that Magic Johnson gets.

It was 1984 and I was reading the morning news for a small radio station in northern California. The disc jockey was in another room when I saw him run out with a sheet of paper. He opened the door to the room where I was delivering the news and handed me an urgent story. Rock Hudson had just died of AIDS. After I was done with the newscast, I had to clear my head for just a bit to make sure what I read was correct.
