Since we lack a general discussion section I felt this would be the best place for this particular discussion.
Discrimination against those infected with HIV and AIDS is huge. Do you think it will change in the years to come?
Why do you think there is so much judgement against those people suffering from HIV/AIDs? |

I didn't realize it was an issue. I'm sheltered, I guess. I don't get bigotry of any kind.
It probably comes from the publicly-perceived means of transmission. Like Hep C; you probably picked it up from being some form of "naughty." So it's not just the disease that people judge, it's your whole way of life. |

You hit the point exactly. AIDS is closely associated to infidelity and having multiple partners. Also with homosexuality which by itself already incites discrimination and judgement. It sort of brings about this 'you did it to yourself' attitude in a lot of people. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be. ~Grandma Moses |

| It is probably due to lack of knowledge of those people discriminating anyone who has AIDS. I think that educating them would do the trick. AIDS will never be transferred to them if they are going to touch the sick person. |

| I think that people are prone to be judgmental of HIV-positive individuals not because of what they perceive to be the methods by which the disease was contracted in as much as they are afraid of AIDS itself. Let's face it, no matter how voluminous the data and information about it, there is still a layer of fear inside us that makes us think -- "what if he transmits it to me?" Until people learn to accept that AIDS is a scourge that is out there even without looking for it and that life does not always play out the way we want it to, then and only then can we be rid of our prejudices about it. |

| I don’t fear anyone who ahs the disease but I pity them because they will be dead sooner then they think. It isn’t right to discriminate them, we should help them forget about it, but I’m not saying something like having sex with them. |

anyone who gets into a car, crosses the street or breathes could be dead sooner than they think. HIV is not a death sentence and it's not something that should immediately leave a person ostracized. discrimination is wrong period. |

It still comes down to one basic thing -- fear. People still don't understand it and still don't want to take changes. Have we progressed? Definitely, but discrimination in this case is because no one wants to 'catch' it. It's such a sad misnomer. _________________ ==Go to your happy place! |

The challenge is that there's a greater likelihood of contracting the virus when people just think that it's something that happens to other people. |

It's our human fallacy. We always believe it won't happen to us. We see it on TV, but not in real life. We're invincible.
It sounds silly, but isn't it the truth, 9 times out of 10 anyway? _________________ ==Go to your happy place! |
