I see all of these shows of HIV infected children being disowned by family members after their parents die and being left to fend for themselves. Show after show of this breaks my heart... here in the US this would not be tolerated and there would be somewhere for these kids to go. I see 5 and 6 year olds fending for themselves something that is difficult for adults to do.
Anyone else curious why there are not more HIV houses for children orphaned due to HIV? Why do you think this is?

Often, the issue is systemic and related to the population/government. I think, unfortunately, there are a lot of times when the situation really isn't all that different in the US... Sometimes I think the news is just better about showing other people's problems
It is sad and even sadder that this is not uncommon. I agree with bizofwords the population and government play huge roles in this whole thing. Also they don't have the resources we do. I know the US has many sad stories too and sometimes I think we don't focus on them enough.
That is very true I have witnessed first hand some very sad stories that affect us here in my homeland especially where children are concerned.
The thing that gets me though is no matter how sad our story I never once have witnessed a 5 year old American child having to find their own food and water and build their own homes because they are completely without family and resource. I think that aspect of it makes it harder for me along with the fact that in Africa there is not nearly the education or prevention methods that we have here in the US so these children and their parents often are far more innocent then what you run across here in the US.
