The signs and symptoms of HIV are associated with so many other, non lethal conditions that people can get confused.
Not all tests are as accurate as they should be, either, which is why medical people suggest two tests, 6 months apart to determine if HIV is truly present..
Do you think there are times when people are misdiagnosed based on the signs and symptoms, with false positives, when the second HIV test isn't performed?
Good point. So how accurate are the test exactly? Imagine being tested postive on the first one and then having to wait 6 months for the second test. How much hope do you give yourself after the first test?
I think for an hiv test to be accurate it should be done between three to six months post exposure. I think any test earlier that that wouldn't really be accurate. So it is better to do the test 3 months post exposure
I get tested yearly. It scares me to think that you can test negative and then a year later without any activity test positive. What a shame that it is still so difficult to detect and science has not yet come up with a cure. These are scary times.

.
It is sad that scientists haven't still come up with a cure for AIDS but there have been significant developments over the years with regards to medication that at least extends the lives of people living with HIV
Ok, after reading the question and the answers, I have another question. If the text is that questionable, and you get two negatives, then isn't there a possibilty that you could still be infected. I would be concerned of a test that you need to take twice in a 6month period. There has to be a better way to diagnose it.
I was under the impression that it is best to get tested once or twice a year since it is so hard to detect and that the earliest detection is the best. It's sad that you have to do it so often, but that is for the best.

This works well if you are doing a home test and can control who knows you are getting tested, but if that information isn't handled carefully, there could be issues in the other areas of your life.
Could you imagine having to justify having the test done twice a year for 3 years straight? Do you think most people would be comfortable doing this?
