Wonder what's involved in participating in vaccine research? Here's a bit of info:
Quote:
The VRC conducts clinical trials to evaluate promising HIV, Biodefense and Re-Emerging Infectious Disease vaccine candidates.
If you are interested in volunteering to participate in a clinical trial, please call us at 1-866-833-LIFE (5433) or e-mail us at VRCforlife@mail.nih.gov. We will send you information about our clinical trials and follow up with you to answer any questions.
Once you agree to participate, we will follow the steps below.
Informed Consent
* You will have an initial interview
* We will tell you about the study in detail
* We will answer any questions you have to make sure that you understand everything involved with participating in our trial
* You will read and sign a consent form for the study
Eligibility Screening
* We will ask you to complete a health questionnaire
* You will receive a clinical exam that includes blood tests and a physical exam
Vaccination
* Over the period of a few weeks or months (depending on the trial) you will receive a vaccination or a series of vaccinations
* You will be asked to keep a record of any physical reaction you have to the vaccine
* We will monitor the effects of the vaccine through periodic blood tests
* You will also receive physical examinations while you are participating in the trial
Now you're talking. Much, much better than using prisoners to test vaccines. Non-incarcerated test subjects may take better care of themselves generally because they have the will to live. What would be the incentive for someone who's in for life without parole to participate in curing their terminal disease?

I've been having some family crisis issues this week; but as soon as things resolve I'm going to be participating

I don't think it should be about incentive, prisoner or otherwise. I think the reasons for participating in anything like this has to be personal or spiritual. This isn't something that is bought and paid for, or it shouldn't be. _________________ ==Go to your happy place!
I guess there is merit in that, but I just don't like how it makes us look. I suppose even a prisoner would have family or a charity they'd want to help out, or a victim's family, perhaps. Still, I'm leery about paid things like this. I think it opens up a volatile can of worms.
I don’t want to participate on those vaccines testing because they aren’t safe. There is no way that antibodies can cure HIV. They are way out of the antibodies ability to heal.
If there's any risk on this research, it'll most likely be side effects from the vaccines themselves and I think that risk is minimal to nonexistent. From what I understand this trial will be playing the numbers. They'll be accepting volunteers that are more at risk from the virus, meaning the more sexually active and promiscous. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be. ~Grandma Moses
