| I have always wondered if you can get infected by just kissing. Like an actual intimate kiss not just a peck but a real kiss. Forgive me for my ignorance ... |

I would not consider that ignorance at all. HIV/AIDS is still not something that everyone has been thoroughly educated about.
The risk of contracting it through kissing is very minimal however it is possible if both parties have an open sore or break in the skin.
You do not contract it just via saliva though, it would be possible but you would literally have to take in about a buckets worth. |

Well I also had the notion that you can get HIV positive just by kissing, although I didn't knew it would take that much.
Actually one of my friends told me that when he and his girlfriend were about to kiss for the first time, she suddenely stepped back and asked him his HIV test report to check whether he was okay or not. |

| Yes it is a very widespread misconception. But that is to be expected considering the lack of information that is easily offered up on the topic. It is just not one of those things that make the headlines as often as it should be. |

We need to remember that this is a virus, and viruses can mutate. I wouldn't be surprised if a "kissable" strain emerged in a few years. |

| This day and age nothing would surprise me very much. It was not long ago that you rarely heard of the flu being more than an inconvenience and these days it is killing people left and right. So it is not a bad idea to be careful who you are kissing just in case, and also because you have no way of knowing of they have a sore or cut on their gums, tongue etc unless you plan on doing a thorough dental examination before smooching. |

Thank you. I don't think anyone can enjoy a bucket worth of saliva during kisses HIV or not. I am glad I asked. |

| Yeah I do not think I would be taking in that amount any time in the near or far stretched future. |

That's an interesting point. Come to think of it, I haven't heard anything about HIV mutating over the years so far.
I wonder if it has?
I think what I've heard about it is the unfortunate news about how many people have been infected, and also some positive news about improvement of drugs to treat it. |

| Fluids that are more susceptible to cause you HIV are blood, semen, vaginal fluids and breast milk. Saliva does not contain that much of HIV virus to infect another person until and unless you have blood also in your saliva. |
