| I've heard of a lot of men and women fighting the symptom of wasting with steroids; I guess I just wonder, couldn't that cause more problems? |

Good question. Steroids will certainly cause more problems in the long run which makes it a bit ironic that steroids are thought possible to prolong life with HIV carriers. Obviously this needs more research but already AIDS patients have been using it to gain a little of their weight back and more importantly to gain back some of the functionality that they lose from the disease. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be. ~Grandma Moses |

| That is all fine and dandy, but I think that we are relying on steriods way too much anymore. I am allergic to steroids, and there are some doctors that just throw up their hands if they cant' give you one for something. It's becoming as bad as the way they distribute antibiotics. Steroids are being used as a cure all, and they are really bad for you. I know that sometimes they are very neccesary, but when you have the problem taht I have, it is scary to know that you are allergic to something that they use so much for so many things. |

Just to be clear, I wasn't so much talking about prednazone and similar classes of steroids; I was talking about anabolics and to a lesser extent HGH |

| I know that problems that steroids cause for me and I can only image the additional problems it cause for people who have an even more compromised immune system them my own. I just finished a 7 day course of predisone alone with still doing some steroids that are inhaled to take care of some breathing problems I have been having recently. I was trying to even figure out which is worse for me.... the problem of not being able to breath good or the side effects from the steroids. I guess I am glad they are available, but I really can't stand the side effects that I have when I take steroids. I feel like I am going to die sometimes when I take them. My heart really bothers me, can't sleep the whole time that I take them, along with feeling I am going to jump out of my skin. |

IF the outcome will be death anyway, what is going to be made worse? |

primarily because when a person is HIV positive it's not a given that they have been given a death sentence |

If you are denied health insurance, develop outward signs of AIDS, and are denied a full life based on these outward signs, it is probably better to use the steroids to prolong your ability to function.
Using steroids isn't an automatic death sentence if they are used properly. Loss of function, though, can shorten your life in ways that healthy people don't necessarily recognize. |

| I think that you are right because HIV has no cure. What you can do to prolong your life is to get balance diet, exercise daily, and eat healthy. Remember that the slightest sickness can cause your death. |
