Just for clarification and until we have a facts section I wanted to add this on the off chance that anyone did not know these facts.

Sweat: Does not contain the HIV virus thus it cannot be transmitted through contact

Urine & Feces: There is not enough of the virus present in these bodily wastes to transmit the HIV virus (unless blood is present)

Saliva: Little evidence to show that HIV is even present in saliva at any level and some evidence suggests that HIV dies in saliva in small amounts. They did a test of 79 HIV infected persons and out of the 79 only one of them had HIV detected in his saliva. Which at the same time he was suffering from thrush and throat sores and lesions.

Tears: Does not contain any or a sufficient amount of the virus to transmit it.

Another tid bit that some do not realize is that HIV is only transmitted through a certain level of the virus such as is present in blood - breast milk - vaginal secretions and semen.

I've always thought blood, vaginal secretions and semen. How high exactly is the virus level in breast milks. Does one have a higher or lower level than the other?

I thought the virus was present in all body fluids with the exception of saliva and sweat. I did not know that the virus is not present in urine. Its good to know that.

That is a useful blog. I did not know about the urine portion either. I head there was a small chance with the saliva. It’s all about knowing what you are doing with the right person

That is good to know, but you know in the health care dept. They stress wearing gloves and not getting any of these other fluids on you if you are in contact with an infected person to insure not getting it. Is this information out there for everyone to see? I mean, when a nurse puts on 2 or 3 pairs of gloves to make sure they dont get it just to take your temp. It makes you wonder.

But that too is about stigma and it's about fear. All of the information that is out there is available, but even in the medical professions fear can get in the way of logic

I disagree with bizofwords on the response to this. Folks in the medical profession should be watched carefully. They don't take actions that aren't necessary around sick people. Just like cops and other officials, there is a public response and an industry response - we should follow what we see them doing not just taking their word for it.

It's like watching television shows where a crime is committed but the police make a fuss over the fact the perpetrator used latex gloves to hide their finger prints. This is a ruse for the public to consume and internalize. This way, when the dumb among us decide to break the law, they feel safe putting on latex gloves to help them get away with the crime. The real CSI have ways of getting around this.

My neighbor is a CNA and she used to work in the hospital. She now works in a public clinic. She told me once that although they tell the public that you can not get HIV through kissing, ect. That they take classes that warn them not to allow an infected persons saliva to come in contact with their skin, and other bodily fluids.
I'm not saying that I believe that you CAN get it through these other bodily fluids, but they were really stressing to her and the others that even if a patient is sweating, they should take every precaution. It bothered her, and she was telling me about it. She said that they never came out and said that it was contagious that way, but they almost implied it. I'm just telling what she came across in the medical profession.

And what's wrong with the teensiest bit of stigma, of fear? Stigma is what keeps you aware that you are interacting with a person with a potentially terminal contagion, like TB or Hep C. Fear is what keeps you both safe. So it makes you all oosty to to the responsible thing and tell someone you might be HIV-positive; you think it doesn't concern the other party in the slightest that they have to do the civil thing and continue interacting with you? However do you expect to enlighten the ignorant? Lecturing people about intolerance and fear is a bit offputting.
