If your best friend told you that they were HIV positive, what would you say to them?

Wow. Sorry to hear about that. If you need anything let me know. Same stuff you'd say to any sick friend. All the societal judgment garbage, they're already saying to themselves. It won't cure them. So work with the situation as it is.

I don't really have a lot of friends myself and if a friend told me this I probably won't know what to say at first and that's probably what I would say first, "I don't know what to say!" :p but yeah I'm sure it'll be followed with, "How? When?", "I'm here to help" and "How are you handling it?"

I think that wouldn’t say a single word and then I would support them because I might have hurt his feeling if I have said something. Sick people are the most sensitive people on the planet.

i think we will say this to any people. If yur friend is suffering from cancer yu are not going to say gee I am happy ...

It's very easy to post something hypothetical here because we are not actually dealing with a real situation. At the top of my head, I'd probably be telling my best friend, "what can I do to help?" or "tell me what you need." But that's a very idealistic response that has been thought through. In reality, I probably would be at a loss for words, and I'm not even sure if I can say anything that will reflect strength or acceptance. Because even with all the information available to us, there is still a stigma associated with contracting HIV/AIDS.

I wouldn't say anything to begin with. I would just grab them and hug them and let them feel the strength I have to support them. Then I would offer to go to doctors visits to learn more about what I could do to help and I would be there for them no matter what.

I would not so much say anything I would just grab them and hold them and wipe their tears. It may mean more than you think. Because even with all the information out there,we all know people still think "If I touch them I may get it" Sorry but I know I have heard it at parties and such. So I would comfort them and let them know how much I love them and that I will always be there for them.
