Some HIV/AIDS patients have been criticized from being discreet with their status. But I think it is also their right if they don't want to disclose their being HIV positive status in public. On the other hand, it is also their responsibility to be honest to their (prospective) partners...

This kind of thing always bugs me a bit; if someone does not need to know something, why should they be told? Provided someone who is positive shares that status with sex partners and medical professionals, the general public does not need to know

Well honestly it is not like the records would be spammed across the local media. There are plenty of people who do not hide their HIV status but how many names are you aware of? It would be nice to have a partnership check up where you go into a clinic with your partner and they can bring it up that way that way you know when and the status of the last test.

I do not trust that everyone will be honest about their status and that makes me doubt that it should forever be their right to with hold it.

i know of a number of couples who go for HIV tests together - i think it's something that just makes sense. if you're committed enough to someone to be sleeping with them, it makes sense to be committed enough to want to protect them
