If you were HIV positive, would you really want to know about it now or would you rather live in oblivion. I mean even if you know it early, there is no cure. Would you rather prefer to know or not?

I would rather know than not know. If you didn't know that you were HIV+, imagine all the people that you could possibly infect because you didn't even know.

If you got married, your wife, your kids would get it...

I'd rather know. There may not be a cure but there are ways to treat it that you can limit the chances that you pass it on and also keep it in check so you can live a full life even though you are HIV positive.

I would feel obligated to find out if I thought there's a chance I had it. Just the thought that people I care for could get it from me, no matter how small the chance that could happen, would compel me not to do otherwise.

I also feel the same way. I would want to know in order to reduce the risk of passing it on. The first time I decided to get tested was when I decided I was going to have a baby.

I was really terrified and couldn't eat or sleep much the day before I got my results.

I would love to not know and pretend the disease didn't exist but the truth is for the sake of my family I would need to know.

I would have to know. I remember when I was pregnant and they asked me about having the test done. I had never thought about it since I abstained until marriage, but my husband has been married several times, etc.. and the doctor told me that she recommended it. I immediately got tested. There was no way that I would have chosen not to know, and risk my baby that way.

Only if I planned on being a hermit for the rest of my life, because that would be the only sure way of not transmitting to anyone, which would be unconscionable.

treatment has come a very long way; while it still doesn't work for everyone, there are a number of people who are living with HIV just as others live with diabetes. if you don't get tested, you can't treat it and you're likely to infect others
